Nurturing the call to serve one another and love their neighbor, various service projects and events happen throughout the school year. Participation is voluntary and prayer for cause or need is always a request. Students learn their are various ways of giving in time, talent and treasure.
As has been the tradition at St. Mary’s for close to 50 years, the call to service and support our neighbor is answered through donations to the Mission Bag. During Morning Prayer, students are invited to give from their heart , loose change or dollars for the needs of the community.
Students are encouraged to identify local needs to give donations. Donations have been given to family/community members who are dealing with an illness, family/community members who have experienced a tragedy, Works of Mercy - Parish Food Pantry, Catholic Charities, Red Cross, Good Neighbor Settlement to name of few.
Our Parish Food Pantry, Works of Mercy serves the community in the surrounding area with donations of food and clothing. St. Mary’s students are dedicated to supporting their efforts with time, talent and treasure. With a donation from the Mission bag, students will also host a food drive of cereal, oil and peanut butter. These items are in high demand. Students in 5th and 6th grade help the pantry in restocking and packaging groceries on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In December, our Student Council sponsors a toy drive to benefit the children who are in foster care and who may have experienced abuse. An annual Christmas party is held where items are distributed for children ranging infant - 16 years old.
During Lent, along with the parish, families are invited to participate in the Rice Bowl program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services. This Lenten observance allows to give alms as they give sacrifice during our 40 day journey before Easter. International donations assist programs for communities in underprivileged countries.
